History Timeline
1979 - Ron Post starts first medical team in Cambodia naming it Northwest Medical Teams. Ron Post was an Oregon businessman that after seeing a huge suffering in Cambodia that forced many refugees to try to escape, created Northwest Medical Teams to help them as if they were "his own children."
1986 - Medical Supplies Program launches. This program gathers and distributes life-saving medicines around the world to help these people in need.
1987 - MTI's first field house opens in Mexico. This opening helped MTI with its first development project.
1989 - Mobile Dental Program launches. The Mobile Dental Program allows low-income people who don't have much dental insurance to be able to get free or low-cost dental care.
1997 - 500th volunteer team travels to Mexico.
2001 - Emergency Medical Services program launches. This program allows emergency help within countries in trouble and also teaches regular citizens how to act when disaster strikes.
2007 - Name changes from Northwest Medical Teams to Medical Teams International. They changed their name to this so it shows their global impact.
2008 - President honors eight members of MTI at the White House. For a special recognition, eight members got the opportunity to go to the White House and meet the President of the United States.
2013 - Logo changes. This new logo has faith (the cross) implanted into the name and the red stands for urgency and passion.
